Description
Original and antique, this is a fabulous find. 1917 Hendee Manufacturing Company, Springfield MA Indian Motorcycle advertising catalog. Back in the day during WWI, they were referred to as "motocycles." This illustrated catalog has 24 pages plus the cover. It measures 9.75 x 7.75 and staple-bound. The advertising boasts 1917 improvements of both the Indian and the Powerplus and Light Twin motorcycles: New Indian Triple Stem Fork with handlebar adjustments; pressed steel gas tank with 3.75 gallon capacity; positive gear shift lever; and the Webbed Vanadium Steel Frame. This catalog has incredible black and white as well as color lithography inside, with illustrations of the motor, stem fork, gas tank, gear shift, and more. Red, white and black illustrations include the new Indian Side Car with Extension Axle (priced at ), a full two-page spread of the 1917 Indian Powerplus, cradle spring frame, type N (priced at 5); and the New Indian Light Twin Model O (priced at 0). The remainder of the illustrations are in black and white, but GREAT detail. Condition: front cover has light edge wear and light discoloration as shown. Back cover has a top edge tear, scuffs and edge wear as shown. All inside pages are in-tact, with exception of full two-page spread is only attached by one upper staple.As you can see, the staples have rusted and there is bleeding that extends to several pages inside. There is also red ink bleed on four pages as shown. Towards the back there are a few edge stains and some yellowing of the pages. Back has a one-page ad for Indian Bicycles. Lovely piece of Indian motorcycle history and a fabulous reference. Estate find.
