HJALMAR SCHACT, WILL CELEBRATE HIS 90TH BIRTHDAY ON JAN. 22ND.  AFTER HIS ACQUITTAL IN THE NUREMBERG WAR-CRIMES TRIAL SCHACT WORKED AS A PRIVATE BANKER AND LIVES NOW ON HIS OWN PRIVATE MEANS.  HIS FINANCIAL-POLITICAL CAREER BEGAN WITH THE INTRODUCTION OF THE RENTENMARK AFTER THE INFLATION OF 1923.  HE PLAYED A DISPUTED PART IN THE FINANCIAL PREPARATIONS FOR WORLD WAR II IN GERMANY.     * Hjalmar Schacht  (b.1877-d.1970) was a German economist, banker, centre-right politician. He served Germany as the Currency Commissioner and President of the Reichsbank under the Weimar Republic. He served in the WW2 German Leaders government as President of the Central Bank (Reichsbank) 1933-1939 and as Reichsminister of Economics from 1934-1937. During the war he served as Reichsminister without Portfolio till 1943.
